Location Information

Last updated: 2025

This Location Information Notice explains how SupplySwap collects, uses, and shares location-related data in connection with the SupplySwap website, applications, and related services (collectively, the “Platform”).

Because SupplySwap is designed to surface nearby surplus inventory, potential partners, and relevant opportunities, location information is an important part of how the Platform functions. We are committed to handling that information responsibly and in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

1. Types of location information we collect

Depending on how you use the Platform and the settings on your device or browser, we may collect one or more of the following types of location-related information:

  • Approximate location: location inferred from your IP address, region, or general area.
  • Device-based location: where enabled, more precise geolocation from your mobile device or browser (for example, GPS, Wi‑Fi, or Bluetooth signals).
  • User-provided location: addresses, city names, postal codes, or other location details you enter when creating listings, searching for inventory, or configuring your account.
  • Operational and network data: technical information that may include IP address, network routing, and similar data used to approximate the area you are connecting from.

In all cases, the exact data collected will depend on your permissions, configuration, and how you interact with the Platform.

2. How we use location information

We use location-related information to provide and improve location-aware features within the Platform, including:

  • Showing nearby listings, surplus inventory, and potential swap partners in your area.
  • Estimating distances, travel times, and logistical feasibility for pickups, drop-offs, or deliveries.
  • Improving relevance of search results, notifications, and recommendations based on your general area or specific locations you select.
  • Supporting city-level or region-level networks where location is critical for matching supply and demand efficiently.
  • Protecting the security and integrity of the Platform, including fraud detection and abuse monitoring that may use approximate location patterns.

3. Sources of location data

We may receive location-related information from a combination of:

  • You: when you type or select a location, such as a store address, warehouse location, or service area.
  • Your device or browser: when you grant permission for the Platform or your web browser to use location services.
  • Network and infrastructure providers: which may provide approximate location based on IP address or similar information.
  • Third-party tools: such as mapping or geocoding services used to convert addresses into coordinates or vice versa.

4. Precision, storage, and retention

The precision and duration of location data we store depends on the purpose for which it is used. For example:

  • Listing locations and business addresses are stored as part of your account or listing configuration.
  • Approximate location used for session-level relevance (such as nearby search results) may be retained for shorter periods.
  • Where possible, we may store generalized or aggregated location data rather than precise coordinates, especially for analytics and performance reporting.

We retain location-related information only for as long as necessary to provide the Platform, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements, subject to applicable laws and our retention policies.

5. How location information is shared

We may share location-related information with third parties in limited circumstances, for example:

  • With other users: when you publish a listing, join a network, or otherwise choose to make a location visible as part of using the Platform.
  • With service providers: such as mapping, analytics, or infrastructure providers that support our location-based features and operate under appropriate contracts.
  • For legal and safety reasons: where we are required to do so by law, regulation, or legal process, or where we believe it is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of SupplySwap, our users, or others.

We do not sell precise location data for advertising purposes.

6. Your choices and controls

You have several options for controlling how location information is used in connection with the Platform:

  • Device and browser settings: you can enable, disable, or adjust location permissions at any time through your device or browser settings.
  • Manual entry: if you prefer not to share precise location, you can often enter addresses, cities, or postal codes manually to use key features.
  • Account settings: depending on your role and plan, you may be able to configure default locations or service areas for your organization within the Platform.

If you disable certain location permissions, some features may be limited or less accurate, but core parts of the Platform may still be available using manual inputs.

7. Relationship to our Privacy Policy

This Location Information Notice should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which provides additional details about how we collect, use, and protect personal data, as well as your rights and choices under applicable law.

8. Updates to this Location Information Notice

We may update this notice from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above. In some cases, we may provide additional notice or seek your consent where required by law.
